With a little extra time and a few parts you can generally build a solar panel for about 200-250 dollars. Looking at the reasons why someone might attempt this kind of a DIY project? To build your own solar panel is a simple and cost effective way to accommodate your own need for energy and to make your utility bills lower than they are now.

Building a solar panel is a great deal less expensive than it is to buy one. The major reason why green living isn’t more popular is that it generally is cheaper to simply buy energy than it is to make it yourself.

Those who do have a solar panel will never pay another bill for their electricity, but the initial outlay is generally 12-15,000 dollars. That means that it will take you literally ten to fifteen years before you make back what you had to spend to get your solar energy home.
It’s sad that green living is relegated to the category of luxury. The small kits for a solar panel that you can buy will usually cost about 200 dollars. These panels are so small and so low priced that they don’t actually make you a great deal of energy either, but for the same price, using low cost materials, you can make the same amount of storable energy, sometimes far more when you build your own solar panel.

Solar panels are very fragile and are easily damaged. You can find some of the materials that you want from factories and other places that have actually taken down solar panels. They are not permitted to use those which have a chip in them, but they aren’t dangerous and you are permitted to use them. You can use them to save a vast amount of money when it comes time to build your own solar panel.

Even if the solar panels that you build are not enough of a panel system to operate the entire house and supply all of your energy, it will certainly impact your use of electric in a major way. You’re going to save money with a solar panel that may cost you less than what you pay for a month’s electricity. This is particularly true if you live in a southern area where sunshine is prevalent and hot temperatures take a lot of air conditioning in the summer.

So what can you do with the energy that you will generate?

A typical DIY build your own solar panel is about a sixty watt solar panel. What could you do with that kind of energy. If you build your own solar panel and just build one, you will be generating about 1400 energy hours of use, or watt hours. A vast array of things can be done using this kind of energy.

Your laptop will take about 45 watts of energy for each hour that you run it. Your computer monitor will average about 40 watts of energy for every hour that you operate it. Your television can consume about 100 watts per hour. Your Ipod it’s 15 watt solar panel.

Making even 1400 watts per week could see you significantly affect your home electric bill in a relatively short time and for a nominal amount of money. These days you can’t buy a TV, a Wii game or even some smart phones for that price. You can, if you choose to build your own solar panel, effect your electric bill in a big way and become less dependent on big business, as well as helping to keep the environment a better place.
